What's this blog about?

Well, we are a bunch of pastor's wives from Minnesota who want to encourage and support other pastor's wives. We meet together on a regular basis for friendship and prayer. Our desire and purpose is to pray for our marriages, families, ministiries, and each other!

Being married to a pastor is filled with amazing blessings and amazing stresses. You are NOT alone! Our prayer is that you find support and feel loved as you travel down the road that God has for YOU!

Broom Tree Ministries

Jesus said; "Come away with me to a quiet place"  (This information is taken off of their website.)
Pastors - You are invited to attend a 5-day (FREE) spiritual retreat available for full time Christian pastors and their spouses. Retreat agenda is designed to allow participants to spend large blocks of time alone with God in prayer, rest, Bible study, reading, hiking and lots of time with their spouse. Pastors set their own daily schedule or can use the self-directed guide to enhance the retreat experience. Materials are provided for our guest’s use such as, books, video and audio tapes. This is a gift of time to drink from the "Living Water".

Fair Oaks:
"This is a grand lake home that was built in 1889 and recently restored. It is beautifully furnished and has many areas to read, talk, think and get away to pray. The bedrooms are spacious, are all different and have wonderful views. Fair Oaks is located on Geneva Lake in the city of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin about one hour south-west of Milwaukee and a little over 1 hour north-west of Chicago."

The Shack Country Inn:
Each season has something special to offer at the Shack Country Inn. Located just 1 hour north of Grand Rapids, MI. Winter makes the in room fireplaces and hot tubs very inviting, Springtime is the time to see maple syrup being prepared from gallons and gallons of sap. Summer brings the awesome display of “flowers at the Shack” and fall is the time to enjoy the crisp air and the brightly colored maple leaves. The Shack is a 100 acre country estate complete with log lodge and lake. Plenty of walking trails and places to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. The property abounds with gazebos and benches for times of reflection and prayer. There’s even a small prayer house on the lakeside trail. Each room is appointed with a two person hot tub, fireplace, fridge, coffee maker, private bath, king or queen bed, log rockers and study table. A perfect home away from home."

What is a Spiritual Retreat?
It is a strategic withdrawal from the "world" in order to be alone with God.

What is done on a spiritual retreat?
Disconnect from the world by observing a media fast
Get proper rest
Follow one of the program guides or design your own
Listen more than you speak
Listen through God’s Word and prayer
Listen through music or by just watching His creation
Listen through the books provided to help direct this type of retreat

What can we expect?
Peaceful, quiet, beautiful surroundings
Plenty of un-interrupted time
God always shows up – He is true to His promise
Let God set the agenda – be expectant – be ready

Why take a spiritual retreat?
Jesus is the model – He routinely took his disciples away or went away by himself
God often speaks in a still small voice – we need the solitude to hear Him

Why is there a Broom Tree Ministry?
It was God’s idea and He called Dwayne and Rita Hanon to start this type of ministry - He is calling others as well.
Our society needs Christian pastors who are close to God - ministry often leads them away
Weariness makes leaders lose their courage – rest restores courage
Pastors and their spouses are often separated from each other because of ministry pressure

Why are they Free?
This concept is fairly new to the protestant church in America
Many churches do not provide the time away or the money for a pastor couple to go on a retreat
Hundreds of donors support Broom Tree
Just as salvation is a free gift and evidence of God’s love, so these retreats are free so that pastor couples have a tangible evidence of His love for them
